André Cluytens vinyl discography

This 8-LP box set features the Toshiba "Red Wax" pressing, made using Toshiba stampers.

The performances were recorded between 1957 and 1960 at the Grunewaldkirche in Berlin by recording engineer Horst Lindner. This release represents the first complete stereo recording of Beethoven's symphonies, preceding Herbert von Karajan's cycle with the Berlin Philharmonic, which was recorded between 1961 and 1962 at the Jesus-Christus-Kirche, also in Berlin.

This box set was produced strictly to order in 1962. A budget edition was later released in Europe in 1979. In the United Kingdom, EMI released only a few of these symphonies in its premium ASD stereo series during the 1960s

Beethoven complete symphonies 8 LP box

In May 1964, André Cluytens conducted the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire during a tour of Japan. The performances were recorded live by NHK at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Because the original master tapes belong exclusively to the Japanese broadcaster NHK, no Western vinyl pressings of these 1964 Tokyo performances exist. As an alternative, the only available option is the reissue by the Japanese label Altus on 180g vinyl.

Toshiba EMI serie SCA, red wax vinyl Printed in 1963, these records represent the first Japanese pressing. Three of the four records (with the exception of SCA1072) share the exact same matrices as the UK SAX or French SAXF releases. The corresponding box set by Columbia UK (catalog number SAX2476/79) was also released in 1963, featuring recordings captured between 1961 and 1962 at the Salle Wagram in Paris by Walter Ruhlmann.

It was released in 1964 to celebrate Cluytens's tour of Japan with the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire de Paris. In the very early pressings, three of the four records share the exact same matrices as the UK SAX or French SAXF releases.
