For a classical music aficionado, particularly one devoted to the towering symphonies of Anton Bruckner, the quest for ultimate sound quality is a constant companion. Years ago, during my search for new vinyl recordings, I discovered Japanese vinyl pressings. They often sounded distinct from their European or American counterparts and, on my audio system, their sonic performance was often superior. This revelation sparked a lifelong pursuit, leading me to gradually replace the vintage Decca SXL, Columbia SAX, and EMI ASD pressings on my shelves with contemporary Japanese pressings from King Record, Nippon Columbia, Tokyo Shibaura, and the Japan Victor Company (JVC), among others. Through this site, I want to share the knowledge I have accumulated over the decades. My goal is to help fellow enthusiasts discover rare gems or identify the definitive vinyl pressing for a specific work, as the sonic variations between different releases can be profound. The truth is, every record has its own story. While generalizations are tempting, Japanese pressings are not uniform; the only reliable approach is a meticulous, case-by-case analysis.
